St Matthew Highfield 14th Wigan Boys Brigade

Anchor Boys Section

Anchor Boys is the first step in the adventure through the sections of the Boys Brigade. Boys from the age of 5 until 8 years old meet each Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 pm in the Youth Centre. After collection of subscriptions we start the evening with a short prayer. We then sometimes play football and other activities. After a short game a drink of juice is served while the boys get their breath back. Games and craft activities follow. Depending upon the season we will make Easter gifts or Christmas cards etc.

We have a mixture of boys some boisterous some quiet, but they all tend to join in the various activities and enjoy themselves. Sometimes we organise trips, and have been to Gulliver’s world with the help of Parents and Family. In December we usually hold a Christmas Party.

Towards the end of the boy’s time at Anchor Boys there is a small workbook to complete in order to achieve the Anchor Boy Badge before being promoted into the Junior Section following their eighth Birthday.
