St. Matthew’s Choir boasts about thirty members. Our youngest members are eight and the oldest is eighty plus! We regularly lead the congregation in worship week by week and also have many special services where the choir features more prominently.

Annually, on Palm Sunday, the choir has performed a cantata based on the Passion of our Lord. Throughout Holy Week and particularly Easter Sunday, the choir perform special anthems. Towards the end of June, we have an evening of solo items, vocal, instrumental or dance with the Youth choir and the Main choir singing special music.

Rehearsals for Christmas start soon after the summer break, with the special service for St Cecilia on the nearest Sunday to November 22nd. The Christmas Carols and songs are a most enjoyable feature of the Christmas season, especially in the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols.

We are always looking for new members, so if you feel that you could offer your services (you don’t have to be as good as Pavarotti) please don’t be shy. We rehearse every Thursday evening, but if you need further details please telephone Mrs. S. Gordon.
